I was invited to give a talk along with my then co-worker at Xero, Bronwen Rees. The two of us shared stories about what makes us feel like foreigners in different aspects of our work. We talked about the importance of maintaining a curious mind that allows us to adapt to different contexts. We tried to explain that we need to first learn the rules in order to break them later. That we all feel ‘weird’ or out of place at some point. But that the important thing is to trust the community so that we don’t feel alone.
