Behavioral interview questions

It’s impossible to predict what questions may arise in a job interview. Conversations may vary depending on the role of the interviewer. The time given. The context. However, there are some common themes. Such as being responsible for your work. And your flexibility for dealing with the unknown in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.

You want to demonstrate that you know your project inside and out. Of course you won’t remember every single detail. But perhaps you can build bullet points around the following themes. So you can use them as triggers for starting conversations.

Are you a team player?

Give me an example of a time when you leveraged the strength of a colleague to succeed with a task or project.

Tell me about a time when you spoke up during the discussion phase and fully committed to the final decision. What was your reason for speaking up? How did you convey the message?

Describe a time when you did something to show team spirit and how it significantly influenced the results.

Tell me about a time when you could open up two-way communication between groups that were not communicating well.

Can you show accountability?

Tell me about a time that demonstrates your focus on achieving a result versus simply completing a task.

Describe a time when you voluntarily undertook a unique project above and beyond your everyday responsibilities.

Give me an example of when you were transparent about success or owned up to a failure. What was the situation? How did you handle it? What was the outcome?

Tell me about when you handled special responsibilities or assignments that may not have been part of your routine job duties.

How agile are you?

Please share an example that demonstrates your ability to experiment, craft a path along the way, and encourage others to do the same.

Describe a situation where you challenged the status quo and made things happen.

Tell me about a time when you had to juggle many tasks. How did you handle it?

Tell me about a time when the demands on you changed quickly, possibly before you had a chance to finish what you had been doing.

Do you think about your customers?

Describe a time when you delivered service and did everything you could to understand the customer’s needs and help.

Tell me about a situation where you built personal relationships based on trust and focused on the long term. Why was the relationship important? What was the long-term goal, and how did this relationship help advance this goal?

Give me an example of when you prioritized a customer’s needs, even though there were other pressing issues.

Describe something that you have done that shows your commitment to ensuring customer satisfaction, regardless of the service that you are providing.

How does your Design Team work?

What is the hardest thing the design team is working through as a team right now?

Who advocates for design most in the company, and can you share an example of a time they’ve done that?

How do designers on the team manage conflicting priorities?

What is one “ugly” aspect of working on the team, and why do people put up with it today?

What does failure look like at the company, and how do leaders talk about it? Can you share a recent example?
