Questions for interviewing an applicant

A few prompts I use as a reference during meetings. Human interactions are most times unpredictable, so it will be up to you to pick and choose how to navigate, follow up, and combine these conversation starters.

  1. In which part of the process of building services do you see yourself?
  2. What do you feel your most significant strengths are?
  3. What would your instructors and peers say about you?
  4. What made you choose this path? – Tell me how you got here/background
  5. What’s your favorite part about building products? The most challenging part for you?
  6. What companies do you like?
  7. What do you like about this company?
  8. Where do you see yourself in 5/10 years? What kind of environment do you want to work in?
  9. What kind of team would you assemble to get things done? (dynamics, traits, strengths)
  10. What were your most outstanding achievements in your career?
  11. What was your favorite project? What made you proud?
  12. How much experience do you have with user research?
  13. How do you communicate with other teams in the organization that might not have the same competencies?
